Speaking at the Madrid Masters, the tour’s chief executive said he was “shocked” by suggestions that the Killarney showpiece is facing a seven-figure black hole due to a lack of secondary sponsors.

The bumper, €3m prize fund will be covered by title sponsors 3 and Fáilte Ireland, leaving the tour to find an estimated €1.5m to cover the costs of staging the event at the spectacular Kerry venue from July 29.
