Irish Open bosses reject reports of potential €1m loss

EUROPEAN TOUR boss George O’Grady has shot down reports that the 3 Irish Open stands to make a massive €1m loss this year.

Speaking at the Madrid Masters, the tour’s chief executive said he was “shocked” by suggestions that the Killarney showpiece is facing a seven-figure black hole due to a lack of secondary sponsors.

The bumper, €3m prize fund will be covered by title sponsors 3 and Fáilte Ireland, leaving the tour to find an estimated €1.5m to cover the costs of staging the event at the spectacular Kerry venue from July 29.
