O’Sullivan shakes off virus for Swiss Open

THE Cork-based Denis O’Sullivan will be hoping to shake off a viral infection before the start of the PGA Seniors Swiss Open in Zurich tomorrow.

O’Sullivan shakes off virus for Swiss Open

O’Sullivan made light of his illness but admitted that he had been fighting it over the past two weeks when he played in the British Open and finished tied second in the De Vere Championship.

“Last week was the first time in a while I was able to put four good rounds together so hopefully it means the virus is going ” he said, “I was running out of energy after three days golf.”

He had been to hospital for a check-up before the British Open and was relieved to learn that his problems were caused by a virus. His final round of 67 that took him into joint second behind the winner, Bill Longmuir, in the De Vere championship was his best finish in quite a while.

He led the tournament briefly after he had posted five birdies in his first seven holes in the final round. But he failed to capitalise on the back nine when he missed five times from 10 feet or less and missed from two-and-a-half feet on 17.

“I struck the ball really well so I am looking forward to the next few weeks” he said. He will travel from Zurich to play Wentworth next week and then in a new Nigel Mansell tournament at Woodbury Park the following week.
