PAUL McGINLEY collected 104,225 very useful Ryder Cup points in his bid to make the team for Oakland Hills after finishing joint second behind first-time winner, Englishman David Lynn, in the KLM Open in Holland yesterday.

The Irishman, who finished alongside overnight leader Richard Green at 13 under after a closing round of 65, said: “It was a very difficult day out there today with the wind blowing from a different direction that made the course very, very tricky but I played fantastic.

“I was chasing the tournament and all in all it was a really good day. Golf is a game of ifs and buts and it’s a game of good breaks and bad breaks.
