Buttevant and Inniscarra booked their places in the final six of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork PJFC after they recorded second round wins over Millstreet and Glenville respectively.

Buttevant sit on top of Group 3, with the scoring difference edge over Inniscarra, as a result of their 4-27 to 2-5 win over Millstreet in Mallow on Saturday.

Buttevant showed a remarkable penchant for two-pointers with 0-20 of their points coming from outside of the arc. Conor Hanlon landed five of them, David Hanlon clipped three while Mark Lenehan raised two orange flags.

Lenehan also struck for a goal, Michael O’Neill found the net twice with Aaron Horgan scoring their fourth goal in an impressive win. On a tough night for Millstreet, Darragh Cashman and Danny Burke scored their goals while Shane Hickey landed 0-3.

Inniscarra also had the taste for goals as they beat Glenville by 4-18 to 0-8 in Carraig na bhFear on Saturday. Cork hurling star, Séan O’Donoghue, banged in two of the goals for Inniscarra, while Frank Horgan and Mark McLoughlin accounted for the other two. Inniscarra will play Buttevant in Round 3 with a place in the semi-final at stake, Millstreet and Glenville will be looking to avoid the relegation playoff.

St Nick’s went top of Group 1 as a result of their 2-16 to 0-15 win over Canovee in Ballyanley on Sunday. The Downey brothers, Robert and Eoin, lined out for Nicks though it was the scoring of Jack O’Sullivan that stood out.

He kicked 0-8, with 0-6 coming from outside of the arc. Danny Morris and Jamie Corkery both hit Canovee for 1-2 while Lee Qulligan also got his name on the scoresheet. Aidan Moynihan was Canovee’s top man as he kicked 0-6 while Jack Kelleher, James Moynihan and Conor Dodd all kicked 0-3.

St Nick’s will play Urhan in Round 3, while Ballydesmond will need to beat Canovee if they are to have any hope of qualifying.

Group 2 is delicately poised with all three times tied on two points. Kinsale bounced back from their opening round defeat to beat Cullen by 0-19 to 1-12 in Ballyvourney on Saturday. Michael Murphy kicked 0-9 for Kinsale, John O’Brien had 0-3 while Noah Ryan, James Murphy and David Looney all clipped 0-2.
