As each weekend of matches passes it is clear that teams are starting to get to grips with the new rules. From the outside, it looks like teams have prioritised different areas and bit by bit they are starting to layer on the possibilities. It will take some time before teams have fully adapted to all of the changes, possibly a full season or even two. While it is early days yet things will start to take shape this weekend, in all four divisions. What lies ahead will begin to crystallise. Are teams vying for a top two finish, a league final and promotion from Divisions 2 to 4? Or is the relegation scrap their lot for the foreseeable?

Whatever about ambitions of winning the league, all Division 1 teams like to protect their status in the top tier jealously. A win also acts as a release valve in terms of the pressure that builds around a team which can create a negative vibe. While Paddy Tally will be given time in their new roles, a victory this weekend gives them breathing space. However, the mood music in Mayo is a bit more ominous, which can again change in an instant with a positive home performance and a valuable two points.
