New date set for Midleton's Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship clash with Kanturk
The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship match between Midleton and Kanturk has been re-fixed for this Saturday evening at Castletownroche with throw-in set for 6.45pm.
The Group 2 clash was called off after just eight minutes on Sunday afternoon as a member of the crowd was taken ill and required treatment.
Both teams had a doctor on the sideline and they were first to respond. The pitch was cleared and an air ambulance called from the nearby Rathcool Aerodrome which landed within 10 minutes of being contacted.
Shortly after 4.30pm, referee Niall Fahy returned to the field to sound the full-time whistle which was greeted by applause from the crowd.
This weekend had initially been set aside as a break for the teams with the two divisional finals set to take place, which made the task of re-arranged the game a little easier.
Castletownroche GAA have also been praised for having a defibrillator on site, which was used by Midleton’s Dr Michael Thompson and Kanturk’s Dr Brian O’Connell.
