IN FORM: Mitchelstown and Cork footballer Cathail O'Mahony.

In the Cork Intermediate AFC, perennial contenders, Mitchelstown, got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 1-15 to 1-8 win over St Vincent’s on Friday night in Rathcormac.

Their Cork star, Cathail O’Mahony was in fine form as he kicked 0-5, while Seán Walsh clipped 0-4, James Sheehan 0-3 and Darragh Flynn struck for the goal.

They top Group 2 on scoring difference after Glanworth defeated Ballinora by 1-7 to 0-6 in Mayfield on Saturday.

Darragh O’Brien clipped 0-2 for the winners, but the hero of the hour was David Pyne who kicked 1-4, the goal coming from the penalty spot with five minutes to go.

Adrigole recorded an impressive 3-10 to 0-16 win over Dromtarriffe in Ballyvourney to get their journey in Group 1 up and running.

Ben O’Sullivan was their main man, striking for 2-1, while a goal from Jason Harrington, who also kicked 0-4, put the result beyond doubt.

Charlie O’Sullivan was also in fine form for the Beara men, while for Dromtarriffe, Conor O’Callaghan clipped 0-7 and Evan Murphy 0-4.

In the other game in the group, Gabriel Rangers defeated Kildorrery by 2-10 to 1-9 in Ballygarvan.

A goal from Killian O’Brien for Gabriel Rangers and a Cathal Harrington major for Kildorrery had the sides tied at 1-4 each at the break.

Points from Sean Watson and Shane Fitzgerald then put Kildorrery two clear with ten to play but Gabriel Rangers went on to hit 1-3 without reply for the win. O’Brien raised his second green flag, James O’Regan kicked 0-2 and Gerard O’Callaghan popped over the other point.

Boherbue took control of Group 3 with an emphatic 1-22 to 0-6 win over Na Piarsaigh in Glantane. David O’Connor top scored with 1-11, Gerry O’Sullivan helped himself to 0-6 and Liam Moynihan kicked a brace of points for the Duhallow side.

Meanwhile, there was no separating last year’s Premier JFC champions, St Finbarr’s, and Glanmire.

The Barr's led by 1-12 to 2-5 with five minutes remaining, but a late 1-1 salvo from Glanmire helped them to a 1-12 to 3-6 draw.

In the Premier JFC, Canovee looked comfortable with the jump in grade as they beat St James’ by 1-14 to 0-11 in a Group 1 encounter played in Newcestown.

Daire McMahon kicked 1-2 for the Muskerry men while Jack Kelleher helped himself to 0-5 and James Moynihan and Mark Healy both scored 0-2.

Kilmurry once again got the better of their rivals from Cobh as they edged a tough battle by 1-8 to 1-7 in Ballyanly.

Joe Mullane was the hero for Kilmurry, as he kicked the winning score with two minutes to go while James O’Mullane struck for the goal and Joe McGinn and Liam Wall both clipped 0-2.

In Group 2, Brian Coughlan inspired Kinsale to a 2-13 to 1-15 win over Ballydesmond in Donoughmore.

Coughlan kicked 0-6, including the winning score while 1-3 from John O’Brien and a goal from David Looney were also invaluable. The great Donncha O’Connor had 0-8 for Ballydesmond while Brian Lenihan pounced for their goal.

There was also only one point between the teams in the other game in the group as Cullen got the better of Glenville in Doneraile.

Luke Murphy, who impressed for Duhallow in last year’s PSFC, kicked 0-6 for Cullen, Gearóid O’Connor chipped in with 0-3 while Jerry O’Connor was also on target as they won by 0-13 to 1-9.

In Group 3, Urhan took the spoils as they beat Millstreet by 0-11 to 1-7 in Inchigeela.

Hugh Linehan kicked 0-4 for Millstreet, including the levelling score in the 64th minute, James Linehan hit 0-2 and Darragh Cashman raised the green flag.

For Urhan, Jamie O’Neill kicked 0-3 and Seán O’Sullivan 0-2, but the hero of the hour was Ciarán O’Sullivan, who clipped 0-3, including the winner deep into added time.

Finally, Buttevant easily dismissed the challenge of St Nicks in Killavullen as they won by 4-18 to 1-6. Conor Hanlon and Mark Lenahan did most of the damage for the Avondhu side, as they hit the city side for 2-7 and 2-3 respectively.
