Thinking about the drawn 2013 All-Ireland final v Clare: “It’s probably every day. I’m only joking. No, obviously, it was disappointing at the time. Probably should have got out of line, didn’t, whatever.

"Probably stung for a while after, yeah. But after that, it was a case of get back to what you loved doing. You can think of that and it’ll affect you going forward or else just try to forget about it and improve.”

The replay defeat: “I think we couldn’t get inside four points in the replay, could we? It was four for so long. But yeah, we should have probably got them the first day. If the ref (Brian Gavin) blew the whistle but he didn’t.”

The all-time championship scoring record (he’s currently two points shy of TJ Reid): “We’re training and matches, and you’re trying to do what’s best for the team. As soon as you have a game, everything is geared towards, how can you help the team and what can you do in training to help anyone? How can you get better yourself?

"That’d be a great thing to look back and say: “Oh, yeah, I did that, but it’s not a big deal.”

Zoning out the attention ahead of Sunday: “I do the same thing I probably always do and just stay close by. We’ll have a lot of training days anyway, so that’ll be those days.

"Then after that, it’s just around home with (his son) Jack, a few buddies, they know the score. If they bring it up, I’ll give them a bark and they’ll shut up.

"But it’ll be easy enough because people around know the way we are, even in the Glen. If we went up to see the Glen train, they’ll know the story, they’ll take it handy.”
