The Quirke family will officially launched the foundation in the honour of their late son and brother Dillon in Buswells Hotel in Dublin on Tuesday morning.

The Dillon Quirke Foundation has been established in the memory of the Tipperary hurler who passed away with cardiac complications while playing for his beloved club Clonoulty-Rossmore in a championship game in August 2022.

The registered charity is aiming to reduce the number of young people in Ireland dying from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome and Dan Quirke, father of Dillon, will outline the foundation’s long-term vision for screening 12 to 18-year-olds across the country.

Already, clubs in Tipperary and Limerick as well as inter-county players have benefitted from the service provided by Advanced Medical Services and funded by the foundation.

Joining Dan Quirke at the launch will be foundation chair and former Ireland international Niall Quinn, Galway manager and Kilkenny legend Henry Shefflin whose brother Paul passed away while running in 2022 and Bandon hurler Michael Cahalane who was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2014.

A cardiac screening event for young players, organised by the Dillon Quirke Foundation, will take place at Na Fianna sports grounds in Glasnevin tomorrow from 9.30 am to 5pm.
