HARD WORK PAYS OFF: Killimer GAA sealed their place in the Munster JFC semi-final.

MUNSTER JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTÉR FINAL

KILLIMER 0-9 AFFANE 0-5

In a windswept West Clare, Killimer progressed to the Munster semi-final after a four-point victory over Waterford champions Affane.

It cannot be overstated how important the Killimer work rate was.

Leading by four points after playing with an almost gale-like wind Killimer dug deep upon the resumption of play. Time and time again they swarmed the Affane player in possession and overturned the ball with a ravenous desire.

At half time the men in green led seven points to three but one wondered would this lead be enough such was the strength of the wind. It in fact was more than enough as the home side had heroic displays all over the field.

They just seemed to want it more and with little or no regard for their own bodies they flung themselves into every challenge as if it was the last ball.

There was a pivotal moment in the 49th minute when keeper Cian Corry denied Aaron O'Sullivan what would have been a huge green flag with a point-blank save but in truth, this would have been very harsh on Killimer who fought valiantly throughout.

It took six minutes for the opening score when Mikey Kelleher kicked a peach.

Three more points quickly followed from Jack Kelleher, player of the match Colm Pyne and a beauty from the outside of the boot from Keith Hassett to give Killimer a four point cushion.

The impressive Gavin Fives got Affane off the mark in the 13th minute before Mikey Kelleher and a Colm Pyne beauty off his left peg extended the Clare teams lead.

Two points in succession had the Waterford champions in a firm control approaching the interval.

Upon the resumption of play, Killimer showed their intent by winning the throw-in and attacking immediately. They pinned the visitors back for the opening ten minutes but couldn't create scoring opportunities as the wind wreaked havoc.

The home side never let up and it in fact took the visitors twenty minutes to register their first score.

That statistic alone signifies the efforts of the Killimer men as they, through sheer heart and desire, will now welcome the Kerry Champions next weekend in what should be another huge occasion.
