VIDEO: Shocking brawl erupts in Waterford club game

There were ugly scenes in Waterford last night during a club match between Dungarvan and Mount Sion.

The incident, which occurred toward the end of the first half, lasted almost eight minutes in total and involved players and backroom staff from both clubs.

An onlooker in the stands recorded footage of the brawl, including a very nasty looking strike to the head with a hurley.

Warning: Very strong language can be heard from the crowd throughout.

Calm was eventually restored and the referee sent off two players - Waterford star Austin Gleeson of Mount Sion and Dungarvan's Colm Curran.

He sent off a third in the second half, and also showed a total of eight yellow cards during the bad-tempered game, which Dungarvan eventually won 1-22 to 2-16.

Dungarvan manager James O’Connor described the the incident to the Irish Examiner afterwards as “just something that got out of hand”.
