Dublin’s Cooper hails impact subs

Dublin were 2-25 to 1-12 winners over Wexford in the Leinster football semi-final to set up a date with Meath in the final where they will look for their fourth Leinster title in a row.

Corner-back Jonny Cooper was thrilled with the result, but felt there was still plenty for Jim Gavin's side to improve on ahead of the final.

“We try to set our own standards, do what we have to do to get over the line and thankfully the results keep coming. But there's plenty to improve on and to work on going forward,” said the Na Fianna clubman.

Dublin will probably a bit frustrated to have only managed ten points in the first-half having clocked up numerous wides and failed to take a number of goal opportunities.

However, their second-half substitutes helped them get over the line in the end contributing 1-9 of the Dubs' 2-15 in the second-half.

Cormac Costello scored 1-5 off the bench and was the star of the show for Dublin, but Cooper feels that the scorer doesn't matter as long as they keep winning.

“All year the substitutes have been coming on and doing their bit to get us over the line and long may it continue please God,” he said.

“The forwards pushed hard in the second-half and Cormac was lucky to be on the end of it but it doesn't matter who scores. It's the result that matters in the end,” said Cooper.
