Alan Brogan to miss Dubs' quarter-final

Alan Brogan's absence from the Dublin football team is set to continue after he tweaked his hamstring in a training session earlier this week.

Reports have emerged that Brogan suffered the injury on Monday which rules him out of the Dubs' upcoming All-Ireland SFC quarter-final over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The 2011 Footballer of the Year has not lined out for the Leinster champions since coming on as a substitute in their All-Ireland semi-final loss to Mayo last September.

He was sidelined for the start of the current season after undergoing an operation on a long-term osteitis pubis injury, and duly sat out the Allianz League and Leinster Championship campaigns.

There were suggestions that Brogan was pushing hard to return for the recent Leinster final win over Meath, while his younger brother Bernard was confident that Alan would see action in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

After Alan successfully came through a full match for his club St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh, Bernard stated last week: "He will be knocking on the door the next day. We're delighted he'll be back in the mix for the quarter-final.

"He hasn't played any football really since the Mayo game last year. It's been a tough one. The groin is a difficult one to get right. He's had a couple of operations on it, scans, injections and everything you can do.

"So, it's great to have him coming back in hopefully for a few minutes the next day."

But the former All-Star forward's return to Dublin colours has been further postponed by the hamstring injury he picked up during training on Monday night.

Alan's good friend and former club and county team-mate, Jason Sherlock, tweeted: "It's very disappointing for Alan. It's up to the lads to make sure he has a semi-final to look forward to.

"I watched the Dubs play a match last week and Alan was moving well. He tweaked his hammer on Monday, nothing to do with his long-term injury."
