Liam Dunne was ratified as the new Wexford senior hurling manager at a special meeting of the County Board last night.

Dunne, a key member of Wexford's last All-Ireland winning team in 1996, succeeds Colm Bonnar who stepped down in July following a qualifier defeat to Limerick.

The new boss has been given a two-year term and will announce his backroom team at a later date.

Dunne is currently busy preparing his Oulart-the Ballagh charges for their Leinster Club SHC semi-final clash with Laois champions Clough Ballacolla on Sunday.

He guided Oulart-the Ballagh to their third successive county title this year and they impressively beat Kilkenny champions James Stephens in a Leinster quarter-final last weekend.

Meanwhile, Jason Ryan is staying on as manager of Wexford's senior footballers. He will take charge of them for a fifth successive year, and Kevin Kehoe was reappointed as Wexford U-21 football boss after steering his young side to provincial success in 2011.
