Camogie wins for Cork, Kilkenny and Galway
Cork showed that they will not be relinquishing their Gala All-Ireland senior camogie title without a fight after a gutsy last ditch victory over Wexford at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
It looked like the three-in-a-row chasers were heading for a third defeat of the campaign as they trailed the league champions by a point entering extra time but Síle Burns struck for a goal and then followed up with a point to snatch the victory.
The hosts were playing with a strong wind in the first half and got off to a wonderful start with Julia White goaling but a resolute Wexford outfit stayed in touch and were just two points behind at the break, 1-5 to 0-6.
Skipper Una Leacy was in brilliant form for the visitors and she struck for a trademark goal to give her side the upper hand before Burns confirmed Cork’s place in the semi-finals.
Kilkenny maintained their perfect record but once again Clare showed that they are not out of place in this company before falling to a 4-14 to 0-14 scoreline at Corofin.
The Banner girls were tremendous throughout but especially in the second half when they managed to hold their vaunted opponents to just two scores in normal time of the second half.
One of those was a third goal for the deadly Caoimhe Fennelly but they added 1-5 in nine minutes of injury time, including a goal by Ann Dalton to given them a flattering margin of victory.
Chloe Morey, Claire McMahon and Claire Ryan were amongst the Clare stars, while Deirdre Murphy also stood out, notching up three points.
Galway concluded their campaign with a comfortable 4-19 to 2-5 win over Dublin. Aislinn Connolly was on fire for the Tribeswomen, slotting two goals while also proving as accurate as ever from placed balls.
