Kilmurry-Ibrickane advance over Drom-Broadford
Kilmurry-Ibrickane (Clare) 0-11 Drom-Broadford (Limerick) 0-5
Defending AIB Munster Club SFC champions Drom-Broadford were sent crashing out of this season's competition this afternoon, as a super-charged Kilmurry-Ibrickane gained revenge for last year's final defeat with a well-deserved win at Quilty.
The Clare champions used a strong wind advantage in the opening half to lead by 0-7 to 0-1 at half-time, with Drom enduring a 28-minute scoreless spell.
A leg injury to key midfielder Jason Stokes, who was providing a solid platform of possession early on for the visitors, really dented Drom's challenge.
Johnny Daly was one of Kilmurry's best performers in the opening half-hour, but points from Garrett Noonan, Pat Donnelly and free-taker Michael Reidy got Drom back in contention on the restart.
The wind died considerably and with the Limerick champions being reduced to 14 men, Kilmurry used their extra man to ride out what proved to be a comfortable win.
Odhran O'Dwyer, who kicked the final point for the Clare men, said afterwards: "We're delighted with the win, home advantage was definitely a big factor for us. The crowd were great.
"We got a bit of a lead on them in the first half and that was important in the end.
"We'll reflect on the game, the positives and negatives and then prepare well for Stradbally, the Waterford champions, in two weeks' time.
