New Dubs boss bolsters backroom staff
Anthony Daly, the recently installed Dublin senior hurling manager, has drafted Richard Stakelum and Ciaran Hetherton into his backroom team for his first season in charge.
The pair join Offaly man Vincent Teehan, who will also come on board with the Dubs when training begins next month.
Former Tipperary hurler Stakelum captained the Premier county to a long-awaited Munster title in 1987 and is well known in Dublin hurling circles for his work with Kilmacud Crokes in recent seasons.
Hetherton hurled for Dublin during his playing days and boasts county championship medals from his time with Craobh Chiarain.
Meanwhile, three former Dublin footballers have been appointed this week to new managerial positions.
Declan Darcy, who played for the capital side as well as Leitrim, is set to link up with the Dublin Under-21 football management team.
Darcy will join Shane O'Hanlon and Jim Brogan as the Under-21 side's selectors, working under manager Jim Gavin.
Gavin and company will be busy in the coming weeks as for the 2009 O'Byrne Cup tournament, which begins next month, Dublin will field a panel of Under-21s and some senior players.
This is due to the fact that the Dublin senior management and players will be away on a training camp in Spain for early January.
Mick Galvin, a member of Dublin's 1995 All-Ireland winning team, has succeeded Dermot Kelly as manager of Dublin club St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh.
Galvin previously played for Plunkett's before he moved to Na Fianna with whom he won three Dublin SFC titles as a player and manager. He also had a managerial involvement with the Dublin junior panel, who won the All-Ireland title earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Galvin's former county team-mate Paul Bealin is back in the managerial game with Kildare outfit Monasterevin.
Bealin most recently managed Wexford and Carlow at inter-county level. His managerial experience at club level includes guiding Ballyboden St Enda's to a Dublin SFC title in 1996 and seeing Mullahoran through to their first ever Cavan SFC final in 2005.
