Longford lodge objection against Casey
The Longford County Board has lodged an objection with the GAA arising from Offaly's decision to play Ken Casey in the counties' NFL Division 2A clash last Sunday.
Casey lined out at left corner forward at Pearse Park as Offaly officials understood that the player's suspension, which he sustained in a recent Leinster U21 Championship match against Carlow, did not carry into the senior game.
It turns out that the St Brigid's clubman was not eligible to play for the Offaly seniors and he could be facing a lengthy ban.
Casey, a former minor star, was sent off in the U21 tie with Carlow for receiving two yellow cards and he was also reported for verbally abusing Meath referee Joey Curley.
He was handed a four-week ban, dating from February 18.
Last Sunday's NFL meeting between Longford and Offaly finished in a 3-8 to 1-14 draw.
If Longford succeed with their objection, they could gain both points from the league game, which could have a bearing on their and Offaly's placing for the re-structured 2008 league.
