Fogarty admits 'mis-hit' goal
Kilkenny goal hero Aidan Fogarty has admitted that he mis-hit the shot that found Donal Og Cusack's net in yesterday’s All-Ireland SHC final.
The 24-year-old corner forward pounced on a loose ball, beating Cork skipper Pat Mulcahy in the air, to crack home a crucial 29th-minute goal for Brian Cody’s side.
Fogarty, who, despite being on the Kilkenny panel since 2003, is only in his first full championship season, flung over four points from play to add to his personal tally.
His excellent display earned him the RTÉ man of the match award. Accepting the gong at last night's winners’ banquet at Citywest, he said: “It was just like scoring another goal, it didn’t feel any different.
“I actually mis-hit it and I was happy enough to see the net shake.”
The Emeralds clubman was still pinching himself after playing the full 70 minutes in his first Liam McCarthy Cup decider.
He added: “Everyone deserves a spot on the team – the competition is so fierce. I’m just delighted to gotten in for a run of games this summer.
“I’ve been waiting three years for this moment (winning an All-Ireland) and thank God it came true.”
