Boylan nominated for hurling position
Not for the first time, Sean Boylan has been nominated for the position of Meath senior hurling manager.
The Dunboyne herbalist, who is currently preparing for his managerial debut as Ireland's International Rules boss, guided the Meath senior footballers to four All-Ireland titles (1987, 1988, 1996 and 1996) during his 23-year stint in charge.
A former county hurler, Boylan initially thought his name had gone forward for the position of hurling manager when he first entered the realms of inter-county management almost 25 years ago.
At Monday night's meeting of the Meath County Committee, there was a grand sense of irony as Boylan turned out to be one of six nominations for the role of the Royal county's senior hurling supremo.
The club who nominated him is yet to be confirmed, and Meath Hurling Committee chairman TJ Reilly said that it is unclear if "all candidates will be running for the position or not".
The other candidates are current boss Johnny Murray, former manager John Hunt, Sean Moyles, a brother of current Meath footballer Anthony Moyles, former Monaghan hurling manager John Andrews and Kilmessan's Martin Curran.
As is the procedure in Meath, current senior football manager Eamonn Barry has had to put his name forward in order to hold onto his job for a second term.
Barry is in a race for votes with the other confirmed candidates - Paddy Carr, Colm Coyle, Tommy Dowd and Dudley Farrell.
