GAA: Concusssed Whelan 'should be OK'

Ciaran Whelan should be fit to play for Dublin in their All-Ireland SFC semi-final in a fortnight's time.

The Raheny midfielder was called ashore after 61 minutes of today's quarter-final defeat of Westmeath, complaining of blurred vision.

It is unclear, as of yet, if a particular incident caused the injury to Whelan, but it seems a combination of heavy challenges during the second half led to him being concussed.

Dublin manager Paul Caffrey confirmed afterwards: "Ciaran's concussed but we have a good medical team on board so he should be okay.

"Gaelic football is a difficult game - you have to give it and take it."

A Croke Park crowd of 79,190 watched the Dubs claimed their fourth successive win of this year's championship this afternoon.
