McGrane to skipper Armagh in 2006
Paul McGrane has been confirmed as the new captain of Ulster and National League champions Armagh.
The 31-year-old midfielder was appointed to the role last night. He succeeds his great friend Kieran McGeeney who is to concentrate solely on his own game for the 2006 season.
Inspirational defender McGeeney held the captain's armband since 2000 and the inter-county retirement of Jarlath Burns.
McGrane, a chartered accountant by trade, filled in for the injury-troubled McGeeney as skipper for a number of games this year. The long-serving duo lifted the Anglo-Celt Cup together when Armagh beat Tyrone in the Ulster SFC final replay in July.
Meanwhile, new Donegal football manager Brian McIver has appointed his backroom staff for the 2006 season.
Tyrone native McIver will be assisted by Pierce Coyle (Gweedore), Michael Kelly (Four Masters) and Francie Martin (Glenfin).
