Merit award for retired star Lawn

Retired Tyrone defender Chris Lawn has been voted the winner of the Ulster GAA Writers/Tennent's Monthly Merit award for September after helping the Red Hands to a second All-Ireland title in three years.

The 34-year-old Moortown back came on as a substitute with little over 20 minutes remaining in last month's final against Kerry to help steer Mickey Harte's men to glory.

It was a second All-Ireland medal for Lawn to add to his two NFL medals, two U21 All-Ireland wins and Dr McKenna Cup success, and a fitting end to his 14-year career.

Incredibly Lawn was the fourth Tyrone player in a row, after Peter Canavan, Stephen O'Neill and Owen Mulligan, to win the merit award - a record in itself.

At a reception in the Ulster Brewery this evening, Lawn picked up his award of a Tennent’s gift voucher, training gear from Pro*Star Sport, an engraved Belleek china vase, specially designed silver cuff links from Garret Mallon Jewellery, Omeath, and tickets to the UGAAWA banquet from Seamus Horisk, Regional Sales Manager, InBev Ireland Limited.
