Joyce: We're 'so fortunate'

Padraig Joyce has spoken of the privilege involved in representing your country at your chosen sport, ahead of another trip Down Under for Ireland's International Rules squad.

Galway forward Joyce was yesterday named captain of the Irish panel, after skippering last year's 2-0 series success over the Australians in Dublin.

Joyce said: "It's a great honour to captain the Irish team again, but everyone appreciates it's not going to be like last year and that we're in for a very stiff and demanding challenge.

"Every member of the squad last year could not have been more committed to winning the series and I know it'll be just the same on this occasion."

Ireland, managed by former Down boss Pete McGrath, will take on the might of the Kevin Sheedy-led Aussies on October 21 and 28 next.

"The players take so much pride in representing their country and for me, this (the series) is something very special," added Killererin star Joyce.
