Gardaí investigate Caulfield assault report
Gardaí in Galway are investigating reports that Athenry hurling boss Billy Caulfield was assaulted during an intermediate game on Saturday.
Caulfield, who guided his side to the All-Ireland club final this year, alleges he was assaulted during an intermediate game in Ballinasloe.
Kilnadeema-Leitrim beat Athenry by 1-14 to 0-11, but gardaí were called to the ground after a linesman was injured when a player was sent out over the sideline. The authorities then spoke to several players and officials.
An Athenry spokesman yesterday said Caulfield received medical attention after the game.
