Dubs ease past Longford

Dublin 2-23 Longford 0-10

Two-goal Dublin cruised through to a June 5 Leinster SFC quarter-final clash with neighbours Meath as they ran amok against Longford in manager Paul Caffrey's first Championship game in charge.

The Dubs rampaged to a 19-point Croke Park win despite being lulled into a lacklustre performance in the opening half.

They did lead 1-08 to 0-05 at the interval thanks to the momentum of Conal Keaney's 21st-minute goal.

Collie Moran laid off well for the former dual star to rifle a left-footed shot to the midlanders' net.

Longford, in reply, were living off Padraic Davis' frees.

Moran's 48-metre point on 35 minutes was one of the highlights for the Hill-backed Dubs.

Keaney, who hit 1-04 in total, added to his tally on the restart and by the 50th-minute all six of Dublin's starting forwards and their midfielders had pointed.

Davis continued to provide the bulk of Longford's scores - notching 0-07 in all - but bulky forward Niall Sheridan's 51st-minute fisted point was to be their final score at 0-10 to 1-15 down.

Caffrey's charges hit a dominant 1-08 without reply in the closing stages as substitute Mark Vaughan got in on the scoring act twice and Alan Brogan's goal, finished well despite an obvious trip, eased the Metropolitans home.
