Clean lift of ball rule amended

The revisions announced yesterday to the GAA's experimental football rules include an amendment to the clean lift of the ball, by allowing a player on the ground to scoop the ball to a teammate.

However, players will not be permitted to score while playing the ball on the ground with the hand.

Players are still not allowed to slide in to play the ball away on the ground, but the rule stands that players can pick the ball up off the ground.

Meanwhile, goalkeepers who fail to use the tee for their kick-outs will be punished by the awarding of a throw-in on the 20m line.

The Football Task Force has determined that yellow cards can and will be issued for fouling on an opponent who has a clear opportunity to goal, for the third man into a melee, for committing a non-cautionable foul on an opponent away from the play, for throwing, kicking, striking an object – including the ball – at an opponent and for accusing a match official of bias.
