Archbishop of Cashel calls for Tipp peace offering
Archbishop of Cashel Dermot Clifford has called for the Premier County to offer Fermanagh a tournament game as a goodwill gesture, in light of the Tipp football team failing to fulfil their All-Ireland qualifier against the Ernesiders during the summer.
Former football boss Andy Shorthall and his selectors resigned during the summer in protest at the fixing of a club hurling tie involving two members of the football panel just days before Tipp were due to play Fermanagh.
The players sided with Shorthall and Tipperary failed to fulfil the qualifier fixture.
Archbishop Clifford said the tournament game could help to bond hurling and football supporters and help them to "make an occasion" of it.
He made the suggestion at last night's county convention, where he also urged the GAA to end their sponsorship agreement with Guinness.
