Favourites Bishopstown defeated in Munster
Bishopstown (Cork) 0-12 Stradbally (Waterford) 1-12
Stradbally could win their first ever AIB Munster Club football title, after overcoming fancied Cork side Bishopstown in today’s Munster football semi-final at Pairc Ui Rinn.
One of the best days in the Waterford club's 118-year history came to fruition thanks to wing forward Stephen Cunningham's third minute goal.
They had to overcome a sending-off, as they did last weekend against Tipperary's Loughmore-Castleiney. Midfielder George Walsh saw red for a high challenge but the visitors held firm at 1-7 to 0-8 at the break, with Niall Curran their attacker-in-chief.
Bishopstown had substitute Thomas Hayes dismissed following a late punch-up, and despite points from corner forward Jack Ferriter and Kerryman James O'Shea, the south city side could not catch Stradbally.
Manager Sean Ahearne, dubbed ‘Mr. Motivator’ by Stradbally captain Ger Power, now must raise his side again for a provincial decider against Kilmurry or today's Kerry champions Milltown-Castlemaine.
Both Cork and Kerry have had a stranglehold on the Munster crown since Clare's Doonbeg won in 1998.
ULSTER FOOTBALL QUARTER FINAL REPLAYS:
Crossmaglen Rangers (Armagh) 1-5 Slaughtneil (Derry) 0-7
Oisin McConville's first half goal proved crucial as Armagh champions Crossmaglen Rangers edged out Slaughtneil of Derry 1-5 to 0-7 in their AIB Ulster Club football quarter final replay today.
The two-time All-Star rounded the Slaughtneil rearguard, having been played in by Johnny Murtagh, to help the home side to a 1-3 to 0-5 half time lead.
Niall Convery had earlier levelled at 0-2 apiece for the visitors, who battled bravely but could not take advantage of an extra man in the second half as Cross had substitute Gavin Comiskey sent off.
St Gall's (Antrim) 0-10 Carrickmore (Tyrone) 1-11
Sligo will have to wait a little longer if they are to net Dominic Corrigan as their new manager after he masterminded Carrickmore's safe passage through to a first ever AIB Ulster Club football semi-final this afternoon at Casement Park.
The Tyrone side defeated Antrim's St Gall's 1-11 to 0-10 to book a last four date with Down champions Mayobridge.
Brian Gormley's second minute goal - having been set up by Mark Donnelly - inspired them on to hit four unanswered points towards a 1-8 to 0-6 break lead.
Mayobridge (Down) 2-17 Ardara (Donegal) 0-8
First half goals from Robbie Coulter and Noel Sexton sent Down side Mayobridge through to Ulster's last four in the AIB Club Championship today.
Donegal's Ardara were no match for Mickey Linden's side as International Rules star Benny Coulter bagged some excellent scores in a 2-17 to 0-8 replay success in Newry.
'Bridge must now fancy their chances against first-time semi-finalists Carrickmore of Tyrone.
