Camogie and Olympic stamps go on sale
Two stamps commemorating the centenary of Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael go on sale this week.
The 48c stamps show players in the original and modern playing kit and from Antrim, Cork, Dublin, and Kilkenny - counties which have been significant in the growth and development of camogie.
Designed by Cork artist Finbarr O’Connor, stamps bears the Camogie Association centenary logo while the other bears an image of the O’Duffy Cup which is awarded to the All-Ireland senior champions.
A special First Day cover to mark the publication of the stamps bears the centenary logo of the Camogie Association which has organised a calendar of special events to celebrate the centenary.
Two other stamps, marking the return of the Summer Olympic Games to their ancient birthplace in Greece and Athens the city of their revival, also go on sale at main post offices today.
The stamps depict an athlete in a pose of the ancient games (60c) and a modern javelin thrower (48c), both shown against the background of the Olympic torch and connecting rings.
Stamps and First Day Cover for both the Camogie and Olympic issues may be purchased from the Philatelic Shop in the GPO, Dublin; at main Post Offices or online at www.irishstamps.ie.
