Kerry thrash Fermanagh in Killarney
KERRY 2-18 FERMANAGH 0-6
Kerry claimed their third win in their fourth outing in Division 1A, as hapless visitors Fermanagh, still on a single point at the table’s foot, succumbed to a beating at Fitzgerald stadium, Killarney.
The Kingdom opened up well, racing into a 0-4 to no score lead inside the first 10 minutes. Kerins O’Rahillys’ forward Declan Quill pointed two early scores on 2 minutes (free) and a well-judged point from play two minutes later, after being set up by Mike Frank Russell.
Fermanagh goalkeeper Ronan Gallagher protected his goal well from an Eoin Brosnan shot in the eighth minute before Donal Daly and the returning Paul Galvin, injured in an off-the-ball incident against Cork, scored his first.
Erne forward Stephen Maguire opened his side’s account with frees on 16 and 19 minutes in between Galvin’s second and two more Quill placed balls.
All three of Kerry’s full forward line got were marked down as scorers nearing the half hour as Ronan O’Connor blazed over a brace and further points, seven unanswered points, from Brosnan, O’Connor and Russell gave Kerry a handsome 0-13 to 0-2 lead at the break.
Quill, who finished with a tally of 1-4, got his goal 2 minutes after the restart and a fisted effort from substitute Johnny Crowley, barely seconds on the pitch, fisted a crossed ball to the Fermanagh net on 50 minutes.
James Sherry got in amongst the points scorers for the visitors but efforts from Tommy Griffin and Brosnan saw out the win.
