Louth break new ground with sponsorship deal
Louth GAA officials have agreed an historic deal with Boylesports bookmakers to sponsor county teams from minor level upwards in both hurling and football.
The proposed three year deal, worth over €100,000 to the Wee County, is a revolutionary move and subject to clearance from Croke Park.
The GAA's Rule 46 excludes bookies from operating or advertising on GAA property but Louth hope that a mere sponsorship deal on jerseys will get the go ahead.
A green light would be greeted with mixed reaction in GAA circles following the controversial Paddy Power hurling scandal last summer that rocked the association.
The deal would be the biggest sponsorship deal in Louth's history and chairman Pat Toner said: "Subject to approval we look forward to having them on board for at least the next three years and hopefully we will have plenty to celebrate together.”
Boylesports MD John Boyle said: "As an Irish company with our headquarters in County Louth, we feel this is a wonderful opportunity to support our local community and get involved in our national games."
