GAA: Galway advance to quarter finals

Galway survived a late scare against Cork at Croke Park to advance to the quarter-finals of the Bank of Ireland Football Championship.

The Tribesmen eventually triumphed by four points on a 1-14 to 1-10 scoreline after being pegged back to a point by Cork with minutes to go.

Galway raced into an early 1-4 to 0-0 lead and a very poor performance by the Munster runners-up saw them 1-7 to 1-1 down at half time.

After the break however, Cork were a different side with Fionan Murray and Philip Clifford playing prominent roles as they clawed their way back into the game.

In the last minute of extra time, they were only one point behind, but a crucial score from sub Matthew Clancy steadied Galway and when a Colin Corkery shot on goal was blocked in the final seconds, the writing was on the wall for Cork.
