Facing Waterford brings back memories of their league quarter-final encounter earlier this year, when there were local attempts to unsettle the Wexford camp concerning a small trip Dunne had taken to Spain the weekend prior to the game.

“The biggest mistake I made was coming home from Spain,” he says, laughing. “I should have stayed out there. No, look, it’s all part of the process. We came probably quicker than I thought in 2014. We’d drew Kilkenny last year and then Cork and it was tough going. This year, had we beaten Offaly in the league people would have said our league wasn’t too bad. And we could have beaten Waterford.
