Cork club round-up: Last gasp penalty snatches draw for Erin's Own

Cork SHC

Round 2A

St Finbarr's 3-26 Erin's Own 4-23 (AET)

A late, late Eoghan Murphy penalty earned Erin's Own a replay in an entertaining seven-goal thriller at Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday. The Barrs pushed Cork defender Damien Cahalane up to centre-forward early on and he struck six points over the 80 minutes.

Glen Rovers 2-22 Sarsfields 3-19 (AET)

Cork star Patrick Horgan struck 1-13 for the county champions (1-9 from frees) in a Pairc Ui Rinn thriller that was level seven times over the 80 minutes. Cian McCarthy hit 2-4 for Sars in match that really caught fire in the second half.

Blackrock 2-17 Duhallow 1-18

Blackrock always looked likely winners, with two Michael O’Halloran goals giving them the necessary breathing space. But they had a scare when Duhallow finished strongly, with Donal Hannon contributing 1-5.

Cork IT 1-27 Muskerry 2-20

It took time for this game to ignite at Pairc Ui Rinn, but once it did, both sides showed class aplenty as Cork IT ran out winners by a single score. Michael Kearney kept the scoreboard ticking over with nine points while Kevin Hallissey and Mark Coleman were the key marksman for Muskerry. It looked like Thomas O’Connor had secured the win with a late goal for the students but Eoin O’Shea and Joe Coughlan both found the net in the final minutes to put the game on a knife-edge.

Round 2B

Carrigdhoun 2-14 Newcestown 1-11

Carrigdhoun had six points to spare against a depleted Newcestown in Round 2B. Goals from David Drake and David O’Callaghan proved to be the difference for the divisional side but Cathrach Keane with an effort of his own kept his side in touch.

Killeagh 4-12 UCC 1-20

Killeagh clinched victory five minutes into injury time when Shane Smiddy’s goal handed them a two point victory over UCC. The Cahill brothers - David and Darragh - chipped in with a joint tally of 2-7 and Greg Leahy rounded up the goals for the east Cork side. The students were lead by Waterford star Tom Devine, who scored 1-4, while Colm Roche was a commanding presence at centre back.

Cork Premier IHC, Round 2B

Mallow 5-22 Tracton 0-16

Mallow hit four second-half goals in a comprehensive 21-point demolition of Tracton. Sean Hayes hit 2-7, with Pa Herlihy, Donal Relihan and Aaron Sheehan also hitting the net. Ronan Walsh hit 10 of Tracton’s points.

Cork IHC, Round 2A

Aghada 2-19 Castlemartyr 1-10

Aghada breezed past Castlemartyr at Killeagh, with goals from William Leahy and Pearse O’Neill. Aghada had 1-3 from Cork star Brian Lawton.

Round 2B

Dripsey 1-20 Grenagh 1-20 (AET)

John O’Riordan scored a goal from close range early on to put Dripsey on their way, but it was an even contest throughout and Sean Bourke looked to have won it from Grenagh with a goal with extra-time almost up. But late points by Diarmuid O’Riordan meant the sides will have to do it all again.

Cork IFC Round 3

Mitchelstown 1-11 Glenville 0-11

Shane Beston’s goal for Mitchelstown after ten minutes proved decisive in a hard-fought tie at Fermoy on Sunday. Beston scored 1-5 in all the North Cork club also had fine performers in Stephen Fox, Sean Walsh and Michael Walsh. Paudie Cahill kicked seven frees for  Glenville, who never gave up.

Mayfield 2-13 Kildorrery 1-9

Mayfield marched into round four of the IFC after defeating Kildorrery, thanks to goals from Nicky Kelly and David Malone in Castlelyons. The city side pulled away after the break through the boot of Paul Condon but Andy O’Brien made a game out of it with a great goal.
