Unbeaten Tyrone won’t be getting carried away

Unbeaten Tyrone will remain alert, with their feet firmly on the ground in the weeks ahead as they continue their drive towards promotion, according to Tiernan McCann.

The flying wing back turned in a superb display in Saturday’s 2-15 to 0-12 win over Derry, setting up both goals with his incisive running and boundless energy.

The Red Hands now head the Division Two table with full points from four games, and another success against Meath next Sunday will take them a step closer to a return to the top tier.

“Obviously we’re keeping our feet on the ground. Next day we’re away to Meath, it will be a tough game, and we’re taking it one at a time,” he said.

.“Our focus is to try and finish in the top two in the league. Obviously we have worked well so far, four out of four.

McCann rejected suggestions that the Red Hands have peaked too early, and may be caught out at the business end of the season.

“You go out to win every game you play at the start of the year, and it’s hard to beat a winning habit.

“Peter Donnelly has us really well-conditioned and ready to play ultra-attacking football, and defensive football, getting back behind the ball and up the field again.” Tyrone were able to hurt Derry with their running game, despite the ground conditions at Healy Park.

“It’s hard to believe it was snowing three or four days ago. Conditions were very good, the pitch held up well and was surprisingly good.

“Fair play to Omagh St Enda’s, it was a great surface. I wasn’t expecting it to be so solid after the week of weather that we had. It suits a good running game, it suits our style of football. It makes for a better spectacle too.”
