There was further woe for Cork hurlers yesterday when it emerged Mark Ellis will miss the remainder of the Division 1A campaign after breaking his arm in Saturday’s defeat by Dublin.

Mark Ellis ruled out for rest of league action

The Millstreet man will undergo surgery tomorrow and may be a doubt for the Munster quarter-final against Tipperary in Thurles on May 22.

Coming after Colm Spillane’s season-ending cruciate tear, Cork are now without two key defenders for the foreseeable future.

“It’s another shocking blow for us,” admitted manager Kieran Kingston.

“Coming on the back of the long-term injury to Colm Spillane the expectation now is that he will be out for some time and might even be a doubt for the championship game with Tipperary.’’

Cian McCarthy is also out for a few weeks after breaking a thumb and finger.
