The newly appointed manager of the Clonakilty Courts Service Office, Mark McCarthy, has been warmly welcomed by the legal profession, gardaí, and Judge Joanne Carroll.

Mr McCarthy was welcomed at a sitting of Clonakilty District Court following his appointment as chief clerk for District 18.

Solicitor Conrad Murphy, speaking on behalf of the West Cork legal profession, congratulated Mr McCarthy and said solicitors and barristers in the district would be familiar with him from his previous work in the courts.

Mr Murphy said Mr McCarthy, who is originally from Kinsale and lives locally, knew the district well, adding that he was also known for his love of playing guitar.

“We look forward to working with him,” Mr Murphy said.

Court presenter Sergeant Tom Mulcahy, speaking on behalf of gardaí, said colleagues were delighted with the appointment. He said Mr McCarthy had “big boots to fill” but he had no doubt he would be up to the challenge.

Judge Carroll said Mr McCarthy had worked in the Courts Service since 2017, having previously worked with the Revenue Commissioners. She described him as calm, competent, and a pleasure to deal with, and said she looked forward to working with him.

Judge Carroll also welcomed Mr McCarthy’s keen interest in new technology and congratulated him on his “well-deserved appointment”.
