St Brendan’s College show no mercy as Coláiste Na Sceilge’s hopes dashed

Once St Brendan’s corner forward, Donnchadh O’Sullivan goaled in the 20th minute, after a superb offload by David Clifford, the result was never in doubt.

Coláiste Na Sceilge had a superior points difference to St Flannan’s, Ennis entering this final game, and even a single digit loss to their Kerry rivals, may have seen them make the last eight. But there was to be no miraculous progression for them as they were flat throughout the pitch and can have no complaints about their exit from the competition.

The Sem were impressive throughout the field and possessed a dangerous attack with an eye for scores. It was one- way traffic from the outset as Billy Courtney, Dan O’Brien and Dara Moynihan led the Killarney scoring spree in the opening half. Indeed O’Sullivan could have finished with a hat-trick of goals in a three-minute spell but was denied by the crossbar and an incredible Senan Lynch clearance.

Coláiste Na Sceilge did get a boost in first-half injury-time, when Niall Brennan finished to the net after Diarmuid Keating’s effort came back off the post. Na Sceilge trailed 1-10 to 1-2, and with the wind in the second period, they were expected to close the gap. Instead the second half turned into exhibition football from the winners, with David Clifford, Evan Cronin and Dara Moynihan adding goals.
