Disappointment was the first word he used and it was as good as any to articulate the depth of frustration felt by Brian Cuthbert and his Cork players after yesterday’s 32-score Munster final in Killarney.

Cuthbert gave a clear sense of being patronised by suggestions his team had restored some pride into Cork football with the performance that almost yielded a first provincial title in Killarney since 1995.

But he accepted that insofar as deserving to win a match means anything, his Cork players had just cause.
