Castlehaven see off Douglas

In the Cork County Football League, Castlehaven are the early leaders of the Rochestown Park Hotel Division 1 (Kelleher Shield).

The 2012 and ‘13 senior champions made it two wins in a row as they triumphed on a 3-14 to 1-8 scoreline away to Douglas.

Stephen Hurley’s goal helped the Haven to have a half-time lead of 1-6 to 0-4. Cork stars Mark Collins and Brian Hurley added further green flags in the second-half, making Mark O’Callaghan’s late goal for Douglas a consolation.

Brian Hurley finished with 1-4, with his brother Stephen and Mark Collins getting 1-3. Damien Cahalane appeared as a substitute while Gene Griffin and Alan Cadogan top-scored for Douglas with three points each.

St Finbarr’s are in second place following a 0-9 to 0-4 win against senior new boys Valley Rovers in Brinny.

The Barr’s, featuring the fit-again Cork captain Michael Shields at full-back but without the injured Ian Maguire, established a 0-6 to 0-2 interval advantage, with two points each from Denis O’Brien, Roy Leahy and Cian Madden.

In at times trying conditions, Colin O’Sullivan, Leahy and Enda Dennehy added further scores in the second-half to ensure victory.

In the other top-flight game, O’Donovan Rossa were 3-6 to 0-9 winners against Carbery Rangers. Donal Óg Hodnett netted two of the goals with Seán Carmody getting the other.

In Division 2, reigning senior football champions Ballincollig moved to the top of the table as they got a second win by beating Macroom, 0-13 to 0-11.

Dohenys started their campaign with a win as they beat Nemo Rangers by 0-12 to 0-6.

St Michael’s and Mallow are the Division 3 pace-setters with four points each. They beat Kinsale and Glanworth respectively.

In Division 4, newcomers Millstreet — last year’s junior champions — maintained a bright start thanks to a 1-12 to 0-11 away win at Grenagh. With the sides level at 0-7 apiece at half-time, Diarmuid Dorgan’s frees helped Grenagh to shade matters early in the second half.

But Millstreet rallied and a late goal from subs Donough Murphy secured victory.
