Noel Connelly: New regime needed promising start

Noel Connelly admitted it was as important for him and Pat Holmes as Mayo’s new management team as it was for the players that they picked up a win against All-Ireland champions Kerry in Killarney.

“With a new regime coming in, you always want to start with a win. It builds confidence. If we were travelling up the road this evening on the back of a defeat, it would make it hard going in on Tuesday night.

“Now it’s that much easier. The lads will take confidence from the win and will be looking forward to next week’s game. Tyrone will be coming to Castlebar with a sting in their tails after losing (to Monaghan).
