Dempsey admits recovering from high of a final takes time

An All-Ireland final is a peak for any player, but like any peak worth reaching, it takes time to recover from the ascent. Ask Kilkenny selector Michael Dempsey.

Dempsey admits recovering from high of a final takes time

“Generally speaking you might say 72 hours for a player to recover, in this instance longer, but psychologically it takes the best part of a week for players to come around and realise there’s still another game to be played. As part of any recovery strategy you have to look at the individuals. While there would be general principles for the team, I think we are lucky to have the likes of Brian [Cody], who has a great instinct for it, James McGarry and Derek Lyng. You have to take the individual into account, his history of injuries, his age, even how he’s feeling, that forms part of the recover process.”

They have recent history to draw on, of course.
