The Glen triumphed by 2-16 to 1-8 in the fourth round of the county SHC on August 23, but it was a game marred by a fight which resulted in the match being held up.

Cork hurler Patrick Horgan of the Glen and Bishopstown’s Colm O’Driscoll, who plays football for the county, both received straight red cards while another Town player, Mark Driscoll, was ordered off following a second booking. The Glen’s Donal Cronin was also dismissed late in the game for two yellow cards.

At a hearing this week, both clubs received fines, €2,000 for the Glen and €1,500 for Bishopstown. In addition, Glen manager Ian Lynam must serve a suspension of two championship games for his involvement in the melee. The first of these will be the quarter-final clash against Ballymartle on September 14.

Glen Rovers secretary Jude O’Callaghan revealed that, while the fine and Lynam’s suspension won’t be appealed, they may seek to have Horgan’s red card rescinded.

“There’s a chance that we’ll look for an appeal on Hoggy’s red card,” he said, “but that’s about the size of it.

When contacted, Bishopstown chairman Denis Crowley wouldn’t say if the club would lodge an appeal.
