Brogan expects to be fit for Wexford clash

Bernard Brogan is more than hopeful he will be fit for Dublin’s Leinster SFC semi-final with Wexford on June 22.

Brogan expects to be fit for Wexford clash

The 2010 footballer of the year was taken off as a precaution in the first half of Sunday’s win over Laois after feeling a tweak in his left hamstring.

Brogan was being assessed by Dublin’s physios yesterday. “Basically, I was lucky enough – I got a warning. I took a bit of a spurt and I just got a bit of a tweak. So it wasn’t as if I was going full tilt.

“In the past I’ve had a couple of really bad injuries in the hamstring, where I went full tilt and tore it altogether. So I was lucky enough that I got the warning.

“I was just starting my sprint and just got a bit of a tweak, a bit of a warning. I didn’t do major damage. I’ve done it a couple of times — I know it’s not major damage. Hopefully it’s only a 10 days to two weeks job.”

Brogan missed a lot of 2009 when a hamstring nearly tore completely off the bone. After icing up the latest injury on Sunday evening, he said: “I’d be hoping that I’m back in the mix for the next day. You lose a place on this team and you mightn’t get back into it. The competition is so heavy that you have to take every chance that you have.”
