This week however, as they prepare for an Allianz Hurling League quarter-final against Cork in Thurles tomorrow, team captain Brendan Maher opened up and revealed just how destructive that pressure can be and how it has affected him personally.

“We always kind of say ‘Ah sure it’s the same in every county’ but I don’t know, the last few years the amount of stuff that’s been said to me, the things that are flying around, I find it hard to believe that it is as bad in other counties,” he said.
