Nugent: Tipp blameless for Cork missing double-header

Tipperary chairman Sean Nugent insists a fresh home and away agreement could have been agreed with Cork before Sunday’s League quarter-final – but only if his board had been contacted in time.

Nugent: Tipp blameless for Cork missing double-header

Nugent responded to Cork chairman Bob Ryan’s “disappointment” Tipperary will have home advantage for the tie. Cork believed they had the right to stage the glamour tie but learned on Sunday a previous arrangement covering League fixtures expired in 2012, when the counties met in the semi-final in Thurles.

Home advantage was decided on Monday by the toss of a coin. Cork are unhappy their senior footballers and hurlers will now play Sunday at two separate venues, with Brian Cuthbert’s footballers hosting Tyrone. The ideal scenario for the Rebels would have been to stage a double-header on Leeside and Nugent revealed that could have been a possibility if Cork had been in touch before the hurling quarter-finals were confirmed.
