Donal O'Grady: Cork must stifle Clare’s early gusto

Clare’s game plan is simple. They set up with seven defenders. Pat Donnellan plays directly in front of his full back with no man marking duties. His role is to intercept any ball destined for the opposition full-forward. He also drops back on occasions when full-back David McInerney drives forward in possession, as he often does, thereby providing constant cover to the area in front of goal.

This system is designed to keep the goal scoring chances to the minimum by denying the full-forward regular possession.
