Three in-a-row hopes still alive for Kilmurry-Ibrickane
Kilmurry, on a quest for a three-in-a-row, defeated O’Curry’s at Doonbeg on Saturday, 0-8 to 0-6. The champions trailed by 0-5 to 0-4 at the break but points by Mark McCarthy (three) and Seamus Murrihy in the second period saw them through despite never achieving the lofty heights that earned them two titles in as many years.
Also at Doonbeg, Kilrush Shamrocks overcame neighbours and rivals St Senan’s Kilkee, finishing 2-11 to 0-7 in front. Early goals by Chris Dixon and Rory O’Connor helped the Shams to a 2-4 to 0-2 half-time lead.
Kilkee did have the first four scores of the second half but it was as close as they got to closing the gap and in the end Kilrush ran out worthy winners.
It took extra time at Miltown Malbay for Lissycasey to emerge victorious over St Joseph’s Doora Barefield. In normal time, Lissycasey led 0-5 to 0-2 at the break but by the end, the sides were level at 1-8 apiece. Martin Moran, from the penalty spot for Lissycasey, and David O’Brien for Joseph’s were the goalscorers. In time added on, Doora-Barefield failed to score whereas Lissycasey added three, two coming from the impressive Óisín Hanrahan, who is still underage for the minor grade.
