O’Rahillys top after win over Spa

Kerins O’Rahillys sit proudly on top of Division 1 of the Kerry Senior Football League following a big win over bottom club Spa.

O’Rahillys led 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time and were always in control. With Mike Quirke, Barry John Keane, Jack Savage and Declan Quill to the fore, they ran out easy winners (1-17 to 2-7).

Barry John Walsh scored O’Rahillys goal while Shane Cronin and a late effort from Andrew Garnett netted for the Killarney outfit.

Dr Crokes and Killarney Legion warmed up for their championship meeting, with the former making it three wins on the trot by recording a 2-17 to 0-10 victory.

This win was achieved without their Kerry players so things look ominous for the Legion.

A first-half goal from Shane O Neill gave Crokes the springboard as they led 1-9 to 0-6. The second half saw the Legion challenge fade as the visitors dominated in nearly all areas. A second goal from Gavin O’Shea midway through the second half effectively finished the game as a contest.

Austin Stacks stay joint second thanks to a big win over struggling Laune Rangers, who lost Mike Frank Russell early through injury.

Stacks led 0-11 to 0-2 at half-time with five of their forwards on target and corner-back John Dennis also on the scoresheet. Christopher Riordan and Jack O’Connor were the scorers for Rangers.

While Rangers came more into the game in the second half, with John Sheehan impressing, Stacks finished in style as Shane Carroll and Mikey Collins hit late scores.

Milltown/Castlemaine are also on eight points after beating Kilcummin 0-13 to 0-11, thanks to four points from Shane Murphy and superb fielding from Mike Burke, while St Michael’s/Foilmore were defeated 1-11 to 1-9 in Dingle despite the efforts of Eanna O’Connor. Rathmore got back on track with a 1-15 to 1-9 win over Waterville, with John Buckley, Mark Reen, Michael O’Riordan to the fore and Donal O’Sullivan getting the goal. Seamus O’Sullivan goaled for the losers.
